  • Atheist Quotes

I have something to say to the religionist who feels atheists never say anything positive: You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its own sake. You are not second-class in the universe, deriving meaning and purpose from some other mind. You are not inherently evil--you are inherently human, possessing the positive rational potential to help make this a world of morality, peace and joy. Trust yourself.
    Dan Barker

He that will not reason is a bigot; he that cannot reason is a fool; he that dares not reason is a slave.
    William Drummond

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

Cult Watch: Mormons #2

I really wished I was finished with the Morons Mormons after I wrote Cult Watch: Mormons but my curiosity got the better of me and I dug deeper. Not to far, just 26 years but what I have found and the aftermath is just plain disgusting. In March of 1984 Ron Lafferty wrote down a revelation from god. He later shared his revelation with his brother Dan and the other members of the Mormon school of prophets. Later this came to be known as the removal revelation and the document disturbed the other members. The contents called for four murders but calling the police apparently never entered their thoughts although they were disturbed by the document. The revelation called for the execution of Brenda Lafferty [Ron’s sister-in-law], her 15 month old daughter Erica, Chloe Low and Richard Stowe.

“Thus saith the Lord unto my servants the prophets, It is my will and commandment that ye remove the following individuals in order that my work might go forward. For they have truly become obstacles in my path and I will not allow my work to be stopped. First thy brother’s wife Brenda and her baby, then Chloe Low and then Richard Stowe. And it is my will that they be removed in rapid succession.”

A later revelation to Ron told him that his brother Dan was to do the actual killing. They drove to their victims home with a shotgun, .30-30 Winchester, .270 and 2 knifes. They decided on the knives. When they entered the house, they claim they were led by god to beat Brenda unconscious, wrap a vacuum cord around her neck and tighten it till she went limp then slit the throat of the 24 year old mother. Upstairs was her baby Erica so Dan and his knife went upstairs. He walked into Erica’s room [she was in her crib] and he put his hand on her head and said “I’m not sure why I’m supposed to do this, but I guess God wants you home.” Then he slit the throat of the 15 month old.

Next they Went to Kill Chloe Low but she wasn’t home so they went to kill Richard Stowe and missed the turnoff to his house. What happened then in light of the fact that they claim this was a revelation from god is astounding. They didn’t double back to kill Stowe or wait for Low but they continued on to Reno. By then the police were looking for them and found them in a casino buffet line. Dan was given life in prison and in interviews he has given since then he expresses no regret and has said you do not repent for something that isn’t wrong. He does not think he will die in prison because he still thinks he is Elijah. His brother Ron for dreaming the scheme up, he was given the death penalty and is sitting on death row.

What was the cause of this? Ron Lafferty’s wife refused to practice polygamy so she left him. That began his rapid descent into insanity. His anger turned into a rage that he directed to three people. Chloe Low who was a friend and supporter of his wife during the divorce, Richard Stowe who presided over Ron’s excommunication and his sister-in-law Brenda because she did not bend to his will and call him a prophet. Strangely enough, the revelation made clear what Ron intended and as I wrote the school of prophets were alarmed. Low and Stowe both held positions within the Mormon Church and were both warned. Brenda and her daughter were left to die. Is this the action of a Church or as I call them a cult?

  1. Take my advise and don’t dig any deeper into Mormonism, it will give you nightmares. The Lafferty tragedy is just on of many in that cult of horrors.

  2. advice,,,my typing is less than perfect.
