  • Atheist Quotes

I have something to say to the religionist who feels atheists never say anything positive: You are an intelligent human being. Your life is valuable for its own sake. You are not second-class in the universe, deriving meaning and purpose from some other mind. You are not inherently evil--you are inherently human, possessing the positive rational potential to help make this a world of morality, peace and joy. Trust yourself.
    Dan Barker

He that will not reason is a bigot; he that cannot reason is a fool; he that dares not reason is a slave.
    William Drummond

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

The Jesus Myth

I tend to doubt the historicity of Jesus. Why you might ask. To be honest I have not seen any compelling evidence anywhere. Particularly none to mention anywhere outside of the bible. I am well aware of the usual claim concerning the similarity to Mithras and other ancient myths. I don’t really want to address the myth from that side though. Of course I will look at it from outside the bible and as I did concerning the pious fraud in the sermon on the mount I will once again turn to the Jewish Talmud. Continue reading

Christian Fraud

Once again a Christian brought up the passage from Josephus as extra biblical evidence for the historicity of Jesus. Kinda funny considering Christians have been claiming the same for 17 centuries yet even Christian scholars do not claim the passage is fully legitimate. Antiquities by Josephus was written sometime after 90 CE so that is 19 centuries ago. Why have Christians only been claiming the passage as  evidence for 17? Evidence points to the passage being forged by Eusebius sometime in the early 4th century coincidentally at the time of Constantine’s Nicaean council. Continue reading

Pious Fraud

Recently I took part in a discussion on an internet forum about Christianity. The specific topic of the Sermon on the mount came up and it was mentioned that the concepts were unique to the New Testament. I flippantly called them pious fraud as I was well aware of much writings before that had it written yet one person decided not to challenge me but to call me anti-Christianity and ignorant and proceeded to build strawmen to attempt to prove they were unique. This post is dedicated to him or her. Not only that but the authors of the New Testament were well aware of them yet they demonized the original writers and attributed the words to Jesus anyway. That is pious fraud by any definition. Continue reading

Evidence For An Atheist

One of my friends called me yesterday to wish me a happy Easter. She knew I was an atheist and unlike most fundagelicals around here, that doesn’t matter to our friendship. As could have been expected considering yesterday was the day to commemorate Jesus supposed resurrection, the conversation turned to religion. She asked me what would cause me to believe in god. Little did she know I had already made some preparation for that exact question but before I answered, I told her I would answer after she told me what evidence would convince her there was no god. She obviously didn’t want to answer because she avoided the subject telling me that I really didn’t want to answer her question. I reassured her I would answer after I was answered so she reluctantly told me nothing, there is no evidence that would convince her god doesn’t exist. Continue reading

Deductive Idiot Part 2

Not William Lane Craig

This morning I was listening to the debate between William Lane Craig [don’t lots of serial killers use three names?] and Bart D. Ehrman on the topic “Is There Historical Evidence For The Resurrection Of Jesus.” My opinion of Craig has not changed one bit. The part I really find interesting is that Craig has a Plantinigian view and does not think argument is necessary to have a justified belief in god so why is he so preoccupied with debating about god and Jesus? Deductive Idiot

Rodin's The Thinker at the Musée Rodin.

Not William Lane Craig

I had one of my commentators mention the debate between William Lane Craig and Victor J. Stenger that took place in the beautiful state of Hawaii. Being a good atheist with nothing to do on Good Friday thanks to almost everything shutting down by me because they commemorate the grisly murder of some Jewish guy, I decided to give a listen to the debate or rather the emotional idiocy of William Lane Craig and the debate of Victor Stenger. Two Rants

I have had two very different topics brought to me. One is the pseudo-intellectual question “why is there something instead of nothing” and the other is just the general Christian opposition to abortion. Maybe it’s just the time of year but I just have to rant on those two topics. Continue reading
